Rush Announce Retrospective III Disc Set

Anthem/Atlantic recording group Rush has announced details of the upcoming third volume in its continuing compilation series. Retrospective III 1989 – 2008 arrives in stores on March 3rd.
The collection – available as both individual CD and two-disc CD/DVD set – features tracks culled from the legendary trio’s two decades with Atlantic Records, spanning such acclaimed studio works as 1989’s Presto, 1991’s Roll the Bones, 1993’s Counterparts, 1996’s Test for Echo, 2002’s Vapor Trails, and 2007’s Snakes & Arrows. In addition, Retrospective III features a previously unreleased live version of the classic “Ghost of a Chance,” recorded live in Atlanta during Rush’s 2008 “Snakes & Arrows Tour,” as well as two tracks – “One Little Victory” and “Earthshine” – newly remixed by the band’s Alex Lifeson and master mixer Richard Chycki (Aerosmith, Mick Jagger, P. Diddy).
The Retrospective III DVD gathers the band’s 10 stunning music videos during the Atlantic years, including clips for fan favorites such as “The Pass,” “Roll the Bones,” “Stick It Out,” “Driven,” and the Grammy Award-nominated “Malignant Narcissism.” What’s more, the DVD includes a trio of live videos filmed in Frankfurt, Germany, during Rush’s 2004 “R30: 30th Anniversary World Tour,” highlighted by a masterful performance of the Who’s classic “The Seeker” (originally recorded by Rush for 2004’s Feedback). As an added bonus, the band has included a rare televised performance of the classic “Tom Sawyer” and an on-camera interview featuring all three members.
Both the CD and CD/DVD versions of Retrospective III are available now for pre-order at rush.com/preorder. A “Deluxe Rush Fan Pack” is also being offered, combining the CD/DVD package with a limited edition lithograph highlighting the albums featured on Retrospective III. The first 100 orders will receive an ultra-rare signed lithograph.

Jonas Bros. Duet With Taylor, Cover Shania

Although details are still scant, the Jonas Brothers will be including a series of surprises on the soundtrack to their "3D Concert Experience" film.

Due Feb. 24 from Hollywood, the set is expected to include a duet with former tourmate Taylor Swift, a cover of Shania Twain's "I'm Gonna Getcha Good" and a new Jonas Brothers song.

A video for the previously released Jonas Brothers song "Tonight," taken from the 3D movie, is expected to launch this week.

"3D Concert Experience" was shot last summer on tour. In addition to Swift, young Disney film/recording artist Demi Lovato also appears.

Meanwhile, Hollywood has already penciled in a June 16 release date for the group's next studio album, barely a year on the heels 2008's "A Little Bit Longer." That set has sold 1.43 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Carvin to Debut Steve Vai Legacy II Series amplifiers

At Winter NAMM 2009 next week, Carvin Guitars will be unveiling the all-new Steve Vai Legacy II Series amplifiers.
The Legacy II amps represent years of development, design and testing between Carvin engineers and Steve Vai. The 3-channel, all-tube Legacy II features all-new circuit designs that have been reviewed and tweaked by renowned amp designer Benjamin Fargen of Fargen Amps.
According to Fargen, the result is "a powerful blend of high-end boutique sound and rock-solid American manufacturing."
"The Legacy II is a dream amp," says Vai. "It's simple, versatile and the sound is creamy and warm. Finally there is an amplifier that has a Master Volume control that can raise or lower the overall sound coming out of the speakers without changing its saturation or tone. Although the sound has retained the integrity of the original Legacy, there is now an added channel that acts as a boost on the clean channel giving it a bit more hair. No need to keep dreaming, it's here."
The Legacy II Series is available as either a VL2100 100-watt Legacy II head, a VL2412 100-watt single stack cabinet, a VL2812 100-watt double stack cabinet, or a VL2122 100-watt Legacy II combo amp.

Phish Announce First Tour in Five Years

Phish will launch its first summer tour in five years with a two-night stand at the Nikon Theatre at Jones Beach in Wantagh, NY, on June 4 and 5. Yesterday the band resumed rehearsals, which began in November, in preparation for the upcoming shows.
An online ticket request period is currently underway at http://www.phish.tickets.musictoday.com. Tickets will go on sale to the general public the weekend of January 30th and 31st. For information on where to purchase tickets, visit phish.com/tourdates.

Phish's summer tour will be preceded by a trio of concerts (March 6th, 7th and 8th) at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia. The shows at the 13,800-capacity venue sold out just seconds after tickets went on sale last fall. They will mark the group's first concerts since its August 2004 performance at the Coventry festival in Vermont.

On March 3rd, Phish will release The Clifford Ball on JEMP Records/Rhino. This major archival release features the band's entire performance at the 1996 festival, which was the largest concert in North America that year and the first of many two-day festivals staged by the group. Over 70,000 fans turned out for the event, which was held at a decommissioned Air Force base in Plattsburgh, NY. The seven-DVD box set will contain more than nine hours of music, including a bonus disc with Phish's extended soundcheck, its late night flatbed truck jam and a 30-minute featurette with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. The original multi-track recordings have been remixed for stereo and 5.1 audio. Fans can pre-order The Clifford Ball at drygoods.phish.com.
Formed at the University of Vermont in 1983, Phish quickly became renowned for its live performances. “Phish offers something rare in pop: a long, complex, and completely different show every night,” said the Village Voice. The Grammy-nominated band became one of the top touring groups in the U.S. and, by 1998, Rolling Stone had proclaimed Phish the most important band of the decade. Phish — comprising guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon and keyboardist Page McConnell — has released 11 studio albums, five concert videos and a series of 44 complete live concert CDs, including 13 on its own JEMP Records. In addition, the band offers a selection of 88 full concert downloads at livephish.com. LivePhish.com is Phish's digital download store and has been widely hailed as one of the first band sites to offer high-quality, unedited soundboard recordings of full concerts.
